TeachMed’s mission is to improve 1) preventive care, 2) health literacy, and 3) understanding of health issues in the general community. Health literacy is defined as the ability to understand and act on basic health information.
TeachMed has created a broad range of educational materials and programs including interactive programs, visuals (posters, tear-off sheets, post-it notes, brochures, and folders), and website content and design. Projects have addressed lifestyle changes, diabetes management, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, hypertension, osteoarthritis, migraines, asthma & allergies, obesity, vascular disease (hardening of the arteries), kidney disease, tobacco cessation, medication compliance, anxiety and depression.
All projects combine clarity and respect for the range of preferred learning styles.
Dr. Sukol
As founder of TeachMed, Inc., Dr. Roxanne Sukol has spent the past 10 years teaching about health and medical issues. Dr. Sukol works at the intersection of preventive medical care and health literacy. Special interests in nutrition and language give her a unique ability to make complex medical information easy to understand.
Dr. Sukol is a 1995 graduate of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in
Dr. Sukol is a 2nd place winner of the 2008 Award for Creative Nonfiction at the Baltimore Review for her essay, “Redefined Wheat.” She is a 1995 winner of the Essay Competition of the John Conley Foundation for Ethics and Philosophy in Medicine. The winning essay was published in May 1995 in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), the Honor Medical Society, and the recipient of numerous other awards for academic excellence and community service.
Prior to medical school, Dr. Sukol spent 7 years as an environmental engineering consultant working for the U.S. EPA, OSHA, and industry. Dr. Sukol holds an M.S. in Environmental Science from the
